Shikotsu-Toya 6 Day Winter Hiking Tour 2026

Posted

Guests on this year’s departure of our Shikotsu-Toya 6 Day Winter Hiking Tour were faced with a few challenges, not least of which were heavy snow disrupting transport plans! Still, that wasn’t enough to dampen their spirits and they were treated to some amazing powder for snowshoeing, as well as cozy hot springs and some amazing crystal blue skies.

Thank you so much to all of our guests for joining us and many thanks to guides Yuka and Tobaji, despite the challenges faced on this tour.

A line of hikers make their way up a snowy road on Mt. Monbetsu. They are wearing snowshoes and holding poles. The person at the front of the line is smiling at the camera.
The group begins their snowshoe hike up Mt. Monbetsu!
A group of winter hikers smile at the camera in the snow on Mt. Usu. Snow is falling heavily around them. Behind them is a small, snow-covered temple-like building.
Our hike up Mt. Usu was marked by very heavy snow - but it didn't make our guests' hearts any less warm!
A line of winter hikers snowshoe through deep snow on Mt. Kokimobetsu. They appear to be snowshoeing over lines left. by snowmobiles or vehicles. There is a forest of small birch trees in the background.
Being this high up allows us to see incoming weather fronts - that cloud in the distance looks particularly snowy!
